Unipol - founded in 1989 as part of the Unidek Group (later CRH plc), is a producer of expandable polystyrene (EPS) beads. The products are suitable for numerous applications, ranging from insulation and construction to packaging.

About Unipol

After the divestment of the insulation activities to Kingspan plc in 2011, Strong Root Capital acquired Unipol from CRH plc in 2012. Unipol had always been managed as an internal supplier to CHR’s insulation division, with limited focus on innovation, efficiency or external customers.

After the acquisition Strong Root Capital, together with new management, transformed Unipol from a typical intercompany supplier into a market-oriented, efficient, flexible and independent EPS producer. Now Unipol distinguishes itself in the market by its excellent product quality in combination with flexibility, a high service level and the technical support that it can provide to its customers.

Our approach

Strong Root Capital has supported Unipol with investments in additional production capacity, higher quality and product innovation. Currently Unipol supplies a large number of customers throughout Europe, from Scandinavia to Poland and Turkey. Total production has more than doubled to 85,000kt and in 2018 another investment is planned to increase capacity and further update the production facilities. Turnover has grown over €100 million.
